Simeon Davis Group | The Diver | Video
“The Diver” follows the true account from the dive journals of a marine archaeologist off the coast of Malta. During this dive, he was set to survey a sunken ship - a dangerous but exciting task. While in the ship, well below the surface, his lights went out and he had to navigate blindly through the wreck til he found the sunlight again.
Musically, this piece uses a series of themes to evoke mottled sunlight on sand beneath the water, the idea of submerging, excited trepidation at approaching the wreck, fear and paranoia as the lights go out, and finally a restatement of both the submerging and sunlight themes to tell listeners that The Diver did indeed find his way out.
Featuring solos by keyboardist Holly Holt to evoke the trepidation of the wreck and bassist Jake Chaffee playing the role of fear and paranoia.
